Home decors from Coron, Palawan

Coron, Palawan is popular for its dive sites and coral reefs, but little is said much about the handicrafts the Palawan folk produce. When my husband and I visited the island last June, I made sure to take home a souvenir from this shop we saw right in front of the SEAIR office.

Like most souvenirs you’ll see from the different provinces of the Philippines, Coron offers shell chandeliers, refrigerator magnets, wallets, wall decors, and the like. However, unlike those that you see in Boracay, most of those handicrafts found in Palawan were actually made in Palawan and not imported from a different province.

I bought a wall decor like that in the picture (the one on the floor). It cost me about Php300. Though I can’t remember exactly the exact amount I paid, I’m sure that it’s definitely less than Php500. Since the wall decors were locally-made, they don’t cost as much as they would if you purchased them in Manila (I saw a similar wall decor in a travel expo costing about Php1,000++).

Up until now, I still can’t decide where to put the wall decor from Coron in our new home. I’m thinking of putting it on our textured kitchen wall—the wall’s texture will definitely match the decor’s rustic and native feel. Now, all I have to do is convince my husband to drill some holes on our wall :D

SEAIR travels to Busuanga twice a week. For more info, you can contact a representative from the SEAIR call center +632 849.0100 or log on to the SEAIR website to reserve online.
